These handsomely carved and capacious tankards were traditionally used at wedding feasts but were passed down through the generations for use in various festive occasions. Fitted inside with pegs, a guest was expected to imbibe a sufficient quantity of alcohol for the next peg to be exposed, whereupon it was passed to the next guest. This example has beautiful patina and features the characteristic lion motif.
